[Donald Parker Hemingway family travel photograph albums]

Abstract:

Travel photograph albums compiled by members of the family of Donald Parker Hemingway of California (with residences in Redlands, San Francisco, Oakland and perhaps other locations). Albums chiefly document leisure outings and automobile travels of multiple generations of the Hemingway family throughout the state of California and elsewhere. Volume 1 (approx. 1899-1910) depicts activities such as horseback riding, camping, sightseeing, hiking, and travel via the U.S.S. Kentucky; and locations including Baja California (Mexico), San Francisco, Stanford University, the Grand Canyon (Arizona), San Diego, Mount Harrison (San Bernardino County), New Orleans, San Antonio and Pismo Beach. Volume 2 (approx. 1910) chiefly depicts outdoor recreation and domestic scenes; and locations including Mount Shasta and San Francisco. Volume 3 (approx. 1910) documents a women's outing in the forest at Camp Thunder (Santa Cruz County?) with photographs, a poem and hand-drawn illustrations. Volume 4 (approx. 1931-1935) chiefly documents outdoor recreation and camping in various locations, including La Jolla, Balboa Park, Oregon Caves and New York City.
